AWE - A Native American Spirit
By Will and Jack Barber
November 2010
Background
During 2009, a longtime friend shared an extraordinary rodding experience during which he had connected and communicated with the spirit of a female shaman of a tribal group who had performed Indian ceremonies between 2000-2500 years ago. Out of various exceptional experiences with this friend, I had great confidence and trust in the integrity of his extraordinary rodding experiences and recounting of them. Prior to hearing about my friend’s experience, my own rodding had confirmed that historically the Castles mountain-bowl area, where their family cabin is located on a ridge with an open view into the bowl and of the Castles mountain itself, was a place where sacred ceremonies were performed by native American Indians. In geological time, the bowl was once a volcano, the core of which cooled and eroded into the uniquely picturesque Castles mountain.
With my friend’s rodding experience serving as a catalyst, during 2009-2010 I undertook through my roddings to explore further the spiritual aspects of the Castles bowl and mountain, which many in the family have long held to have a sacred essence.
The Sacred Castles Area
Q. Is the Castles bowl area an especially sacred spiritual space?
R. Yes.
Q. Here and now?
R. Yes.
Q. Even though there are humans in and around this area who are unaware of the spiritual sacredness of this space?
R. Yes.
Q. And even though there are some who do not experience this to be so?
R. Yes.
Q. And although some may deny this to be so?
R. Yes.
Q. Is this special sacred spiritual space associated with how Indians held this area in times past?
R. Yes.
Q. More than 1000 years ago?
R. Yes.
Q. More than 2000 years?
R. Yes.
Q. More than 3000 years?
R. No.
Q. At that time, did this area have natural attributes with potential for the Indians to associate as a sacred spiritual space?
R. Yes.
Q. Was one of these attributes associated with visual inspiration?
R. Yes.
Q. Are there individual spirits who are present here and now in the Castles bowl area?
R. Yes.
Q. Even though we do not here and now see or otherwise perceive them?
R. Yes.
Q. May I connect at some time with one or more of these spirits?
R. Yes.
Q. May Jack connect at some time with one or more of these spirits?
R. Yes.
Q. Is this to be pursued over time?
R. Yes.
Q. Is it appropriate to request a confirming sign through rod spelling that this is to be pursued?
R. Yes.
An Unexpected Spelling
The confirming rod-spelling that followed this request was puzzling. Asking that the spelling be repeated, the left rod stopped in sequence at the positions for the following letters (refer to Alphabetical Letter Positions):
A (or) M (or) Y
K (or) W
E (or) Q
I (or) U
I (or) U
Unable to discern at the time any word or meaning from this combination of letters, and confirming that it was appropriate to pursue this further over time, attention was focused upon these letters: A W E I I. Using the internet for exploratory research, it was learned that an archaic meaning of “awe” is “power to inspire reverence.” From this perspective, “I I” might be viewed as distinct from “A W E.” Could these letters be a modern equivalent of a long ago Indian’s name: AWE the Second? This possibility was examined in a subsequent rodding engagement:
Q. Was A the spelling’s first letter?
R. Yes.
Q. Was M the spelling’s first letter?
R. No.
Q. Was Y the spelling’s first letter?
R. No.
This rule-in-and-rule-out approach was meticulously followed until each of the letters “A W E I I” was individually confirmed.
Q. Was the spelling A W E I I?
R. Yes.
Q. Is AWE II a modern equivalent of a long ago Indian person’s name?
R. Yes.
Q. In this sense does AWE II mean AWE 2d?
R. Yes.
We subsequently determined to that AWE is pronounced ‘Ah-way.’

During a number of ensuing spiritual rodding engagements during 2009-2010, AWE II’s story was revealed through my spiritual roddings:

R. Yes.

R. Yes.

R. Yes.
Connection with Jack
Not long after Will’s initial 2009 AWE-related rodding experiences, Jack and his family were also at the Colorado family mountain cabin. While there, Jack shared about a rodding experience he had at the cabin, in which he was puzzled by a spontaneous movement that he was unable to decipher. Responding to Jack’s request that, if appropriate, Will determine whether his spiritual rodding could collaterally assist Jack’s understanding, Will asked during his next rodding engagement:
Q. May I connect consciously with AWE’s spirit?
R. Yes.
Q. Am I here and now consciously connected with AWE’s spirit?
R. Yes.
Q. AWE, was the rod movement that recently puzzled Jack sourced from outside him?
R. Yes.
Q. Was Grandma’s spirit the source?
R. No.
Q. Baby William’s spirit?
R. No.
Q. Was your spirit the source?
R. Yes.
Q. Do you want to connect consciously with Jack?
R. Yes.
Q. Would such a conscious connection between your spirit and Jack have a particular purpose?
R. [The rods again moved and stopped in a ← and ↑ position]
Q. Are these rodding experiences relating to your spirit and Jack real?
R. Yes.
Q. And reliable?
R. Yes.
Choosing to inquire again whether a confirming sign through rod-spelling was appropriate, and receiving an affirmative response, I watched as one of the rods spelled:
A W E I I [pause] J A C K
Informing Jack about this rodding experience, and subsequently hearing from him about Jack’s own intriguing follow-on rodding experience, Will next explored:
Q. Am I consciously connected with AWE’s spirit?
R. Yes.
Q. AWE, did you have a particular connection with the area in the Castles bowl that our family calls the second meadow?
R. Yes.
Jack has long considered the second meadow, with its spectacular panoramic view of much of the visually inspiring Castles bowl and its centerpiece Castles mountain, to be very special. So much so, that having visited it many times, he selected this second meadow as the place to propose to his wife, Malia, and over the ensuing years he and his family (two daughters) have often visited it and taken pictures there.
Q. AWE, did some of the sacred ceremonies that you performed in the Castles bowl take place in the second meadow?
R. Yes.
Q. Does your spirit have an ongoing presence associated with this second meadow?
R. Yes.
Q. Is that connection and presence associated with you wanting to connect consciously with Jack?
R. Yes.
Q. Is a purpose of you wanting to connect consciously with me related to you wanting to connect consciously with Jack?
R. Yes.
As I started to close this rodding engagement, both rods began rapidly rotating many times.
Q. AWE, do you want to spell something?
R. Yes.
Without more, one of the rods again spelled:
A W E I I [pause] J A C K
This spelling happened spontaneously a second and third time at the same closing point in my next rodding engagements at the cabin. I let Jack know about these spellings.
